UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Paul do Boquilobo Nature Reserve

Golegã

The boggy marshlands between the rivers Tagus and Almonda form this nature reserve, sufficiently important for UNESCO to have declared it a biosphere reserve. The park's symbol is the startling white heron (seen here mostly in the spring), though there are well over 200 bird species nesting here as well as a variety of mammals and aquatic life.
